Els carrers d’İzmir són plens de gossos i gats. Aquests són, per la meua experiència, molt mansos i afables. Serà que allà els tracten amb més respecte? Per la seua tranquil·litat sembla que estiguen avesats a la gent que, se m’acut, segurament els dóna de menjar, puix no fa l’efecte que estiguen famèlics... Tot i això, se sent una mescla de llàstima i perplexitat en veure aquests gossos que, en ramat, dormen a la vora d’una carretera.

The streets of Izmir are crowded with cats and dogs. I found them docile and calm. Maybe in Turkey they treat them respectfully (unlike in my country). Judging by their tranquillity you would say that they get on well with people, and now I think of it, I would say that people feed them. They don't seem to be starving. However, when I saw this pack of dogs sleeping in the gutter of a road, I was puzzled and at the same time felt sorry for them.
